CHANGING CHANNELS was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best Musical Album For Children.
This fun, singable grab bag of songs for children, parents and teachers is aimed at helping kids meet the challenge of processing their TV and media influences. Fink and Marxer (whose album of original lullabies, "Blanket Full Of Dreams," was nominated for a Grammy in 1996), extol creative alternatives to the ubiquitous force of media with songs like "Turn It Off, Change The Channel, Leave The Room," "50 Things That I Can Do Instead Of Watch TV," and "Dad Threw The TV Out The Window."
They also address issues such as creative conflict resolution ("Count To Ten And Try Again," "Use A Word," and "Talk To Me"); understanding the difference between TV and video super heroes and real life ("The Power In Me" and "The TV Way," a delightful tall tale by NPR commentator Bill Harley); as well as songs about sharing and being communicative. Fink and Marxer melodies are easily learned and imminently memorable, each song features a children's chorus, and the musicianship throughout is top notch (drawing on such diverse influences as Dixieland, Gospel, Swing, Celtic and Folk). A witty, emotional and educational album that kids and their parents will enjoy. Nominated for a Grammy in 1999.
