Elizabeth Peters graduated from the University of Chicago Oriental Institute in 1947, earned an M.A. in 1950, and a Ph.D. in 1952. An Egyptian scholar, Peters bases most of her romantic suspense novels on Egyptology, including those featuring Victorian professor, Amelia Peabody. As Barbara Michaels, she writes suspense stories featuring mystical and supernatural occurrences.
