El Romance de Don Gato: Senor Cat's Romance
|
| | | Six beloved Latin American folk tales are retold in Spanish by a master storyteller in this collection illustrated in full color by an award-winning artist.
| Author Bio| Lulu Delacre | | When Lulu Delacre was a little girl, she remembers her grandma putting big sheets of long white paper on the floor so Lulu could draw and draw to her heart's content. After Lulu finished drawing and painting, her grandma would lovingly keep them all in a closet. Lulu was born and raised in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Her parents were from Argentina, and both taught at the University of Puerto Rico. At the age of 10, Lulu went to her first formal art training class in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She loved it! Later in life, she attended the University of Puerto Rico where she studied under the Department of Fine Arts. When she found out that she had been accepted with a full academic scholarship to the L'Ecole Superieure d'Arts in Paris, France, she immediately accepted (she graduated with high honors!). That's when she knew that she wanted to be an illustrator for children's books. Her dream was to create books that were inspired by her Puerto Rican culture and heritage. Lulu says that being an author-illustrator is the most rewarding work she's ever done, and that she writes and draws bilingual books because there is a great need for them. Lulu has definitely achieved her dream--she's the author of over 10 books for children. As she so nicely puts it, "If painting the people and places of Latin America true to their own beauty fosters respect, or if sharing some of the golden tales builds bridges among children, I want to keep on doing it. Because for me, that is the measure of success." |
