Author Bio
Joel Rosenberg
Born in 1954 in Canada, Joel Rosenberg and his family (consisting of two parents and five children) moved to rural North Dakota in 1955, where his father worked as a physician. Several years later, the family again relocated, this time to Connecticut. Rosenberg has written about his family during this time, describing it as very dysfunctional, and about various kinds of abuse that he and his siblings suffered. Rosenberg graduated in 1976 from the University of Connecticut, and two years later he married Felicia Gail Herman. While holding down a variety of jobs--everything from short order cook and truck driver to the less traditional "career" of gambler--Rosenberg began to write. He claims to have written the first two chapters of what would become his first novel, THE SLEEPING DRAGON, on Halloween night in 1981. His first story, "Like the Gentle Rains," was published in 1982. The novel was published in 1983, and was the first in the Guardians of the Flame series--which eventually stretched to seven books over 13 years. Several other successful series followed. Rosenberg maintains a website where he publishes some of his essays (including those about his childhood), excerpts from his novels, and other assorted information.
